Sew Mama Sew Giveaway Week.

During SMS giveaway week there are a ton of giveaways from all kinds of folks.  Sewing/crafting supplies and handmade items.  It's great fun.

I've participated before but I think I skipped the one earlier in the year.  So I'm due to round up something FABULOUS to give away.

And what is more fabulous than FABRIC.

Oh, I can't show you every little thing because, well, I'm lazy as hell and just don't want to.  How's THAT for honesty, huh?

Here's some more honesty for you.

This box is packed with fabric and it's all destash/scrappy items.  That means it's stuff I don't want anymore.  BUT, that doesn't mean it's crap.  I don't keep crap in my stash.  This is all fabric I either got as part of scrap bags, got in swaps, used a bit of and have too much leftovers, or just plain hoarded because hoarding happens and now I'm having hoarder guilt and this is the perfect way to soothe myself.

It's all quilting weight cotton from various sources. There are all sizes, too.  A lot of fat quarters, a bit of yardage, and a bit of truly scrappy sizes.  (I think the smallest bit is about a six inch square, kind of a funky size).  But NO itty bitty pieces or odd ball shaped trimmings.  Remember, I said there was no crap here.

Oh, and there is some truly vintage stuff here, too.

Yes, that tag there proves that red christmas print is truly vintage.  A lot of the christmas fabric (all pictured) is.  I snipped off what I wanted from it and now I just have to be honest with myself and admit I'm never going to use the rest.

All of the fabric is in good, unwashed condition.

I can't even begin to guess how many total yards of fabric are in that box because I was too damn lazy to unfold every bit and measure and then add it all up.  Pishaw to all that.  I just went through my stash and grabbed up stuff that I didn't have any love for anymore.

GIVEAWAY: Win a visit from a Traveling Stash Box CLOSED

A few weeks back I won a turn with one of the Traveling Stash boxes that are cruising around the crafty blogs.  (sorry, I don't remember the number on this box, I want to say it's #2. . .if you win it will be noted on the instruction sheet in the box).

Anywho, I won a visit from the Traveling Stash box and it arrived Monday (WOOT!).  I'm not exaggerating in the least when I say that box was STUFFED.  I see why the box is sent priority mail, where there aren't strict weight limits because that box was HEAVY.  It was filled with a lot of really great stuff, and it's very heavy on FABRIC.  Don't get me wrong, I like other sewing items but I'm really after fabric first and foremost.  This box is 3/4 fabric.

Ok, enough yammering.  Y'all want to see what I took and what I put in, right?  Want to know if it's worth tossing your name into the drawing, right?

WAIT, first I have to make sure you all know how this works before I get you all excited.

This is NOT A PRIZE.  You don't get to keep the whole box of stuff.  You take what you want from the box and then replace it with items of equal (or better) value.  That means if you take 5 fat quarters you replace with the equivalent of 5 fat quarters.  Or if you clean out the patterns and books, you put some new ones in there along with something else good.  You get it, right?  THEN, you make a post like this here one and you pick a winner and then you send the box to them.

SO THERE IS A COST TO THIS.

The box is a medium sized priority box that is about $12 to mail (sorry, U.S. only).  Just want to make sure you know that before you decide you want the box to pay you a visit.

I will say, this box is definitely worth $12.  I definitely got $12 out of it and I definitely put $12 value back into it (along with what was already in there).

OK, now for the pics.

Here is what I took from the box:

A 4 inch square ruler and this piece of fabric that's four fat quarters printed onto on big piece of fabric.  I love the colors on the fabric and I love the idea of having four different FQs printed together like this.

NINE other FQ sized pieces (I didn't measure to see if they were exactly FQ but I know they weren't much smaller than that).

So I took 13 FQ sized pieces of fabric and one ruler.  So I needed to replace at least 13 FQs of fabric (sorry, I couldn't replace the ruler, I took it because I have very few rulers or tools like that so. . .it's just gone).

Bet you're worried I took all the good stuff, right?  Heck NO.  Of the stack of nine FQ, each of those fabrics came from a coordinating stack.  So there are still some black and white FQ, some "glittery" ones, some muted blue/turquoise, and some bright colors.  And there was another coordinated stack that I didn't take any from at all.  I didn't count but I'd say there are at least 20 FQs left in the box AND some solids and some other fabric (that I'll leave as a surprise).  That was BEFORE I added my stuff to replace what I took.

Six (6) purple batik FQs.

True confession, I don't much care for batiks.  I like the look but not the feel.  I got these via swaps and I do like them but I doubt I'll ever use them and they look so nice together so this is a great way to send them off into the world to hopefully be used.

The box was woefully lacking in novelty prints so I had to remedy that.

Three (3) more FQs, two that are from the same line and one random one.

Three (3) more random FQs, again with a bit of novelty.  I got that pirate print via swaps and ended up with a duplicate so the extra one was perfect to share.  It's really cute fabric.

This piece is big.  It's 1/2 yard ish (I measured it but forget the exact size, I think it's slightly bigger than 1/2 yard).  I got it via a scrap box and have yet to use it so it's time for it to find a new home.  It's really pretty fabric.

Something girly novelty.

This is a scrappy sized.  It's WOF but only two of those panels long.  All the panel images are intact and they're about 4 inches square.  Very cute for applique.  Again, I got it via a scrap bundle and like it but it would take me a while to use it so it needs to go to a new home.  It would be super cute in a little girl's quilt or doll quilt.

Last but not least, I added one more "odd cut".

This is a panel.  It's not quite a full yard but it is complete.  I bought it as a panel (back when I just bought fabric randomly because I was bored) and I've had it for over a year and never touched it so it needs to get out there and be used by someone else.  It's white fabric (with a very faint polka dot look to it) printed with letters.  The whole alphabet is represented but (as you can see) some popular letters are repeated.  It's a really great fabric but (story of my life) I'll never get around to using it so it needs to go to a new home.

So, final count of what I added to the box is:  12 FQ, one 1/2 yard, 1 scrappy sized panel, and 1 full panel.  All are new and unwashed and excellent quality.

The box also contains some patterns, a book, a few notions, and a buttload of other fabric.

I have to say, if I saw this traveling stash I'd want to get my hands on it.  You can definitely get $12 worth of stuff out of it, NO PROBLEM.

SO, what's up for grabs?

How does a big ole heap of fabric sound?  Sounds like I'm exaggerating, doesn't it?

I'm not.  Oh, I'm so not.

That's the stack, folks.  I didn't measure it but it's a tall stack.  But that pic just doesn't do it justice so lets paw through that stack and get a closer look.

First up is the bits and pieces I was going saving for one of my own FY14 giveaways but November kicked my butt and I couldn't get around to it.  So you have a panel of clothing for the Flats dolls.  A panel featuring cute kids at the beach (I think it has 5 different images), some scraps from the Hello Tokyo panel dolls I stitched up for my November Fluff Project box (no dolls, but some cute images like the little bird there).  And some scraps from other projects I made in the past month or so.  (those scraps are smaller pieces but not itsy bitsy--nice usable pieces).

BUT WAIT. . .there's more!

Fat quarters!!

14 of them (if my count it right).  Yes, 14 fat quarters.  This is a motley crew.  You have some novelties, some blenders, a few holiday, and two batiks (true confession--I don't much like batiks so I'm super happy to get rid of these two stragglers!).  They're all quilting cottons and nice but I simply don't want them.  (another true confession--I have way more fabric than I like to admit to so I really need to just cull the herd--this is part of the culling process so you're doing me a favor by taking this lot off my hands).

OH, but there is a little bit more!

Last but not least, some odd cuts/scraps.  (oh and one more fat quarter--that berry print there in the lower left is a fat quarter but I didn't realize it until after I had the nice neat fat quarter pic taken and I was too lazy to re-do the fat quarter pic--so that brings the FQ total to 15!).

Most of the pieces in that pic are good sized.  The smallest is probably 6 inches square (or so).  You have floral prints, civil war reproduction (that coordinate very well), some bright colors, a few novelties (that are country themed) and one piece that's a very large print (almost a panel but not really).

All of the fabric is new and unwashed.  Most of it came to me via scrap packs and I've used what I want and now want to send the leftovers on their way (another true confession, I don't much like civil war reproduction stuff so I made a few blocks from it just to have them and now I'm tired of the fabric so it needs a new home).

When I say "scrap" I don't mean teeny tiny bits, either.  The majority of these pieces are good sized.  The smallest bits are there on the top (and are awkward sizes).  The rest are pretty uniform (square/rectangle) and are probably at least 5 inches square (most are a lot wider than they are long--some even WOF).

There is quite a bit of civil war reproduction fabric here (the dark colors) but also some nice bright pinks, a crazy bright orange, and some cute novelties (the ballerinas there on top and the bottom two pieces of fabric have some cute birds).

All fabrics are new and unwashed.

GIVEAWAY: Giant Scrap Pack!! CLOSED!

It's that time again.

Time for the monthly giveaway.

As with every giveaway, this is tied to my FY14 Charity Sewing Challenge.  And like other giveaways in this series, its a scrap bundle featuring fabrics from things I've made since the last giveaway.

But this time there is a twist.  I did a LOT of cutting for a 2.5 inch charm swap I'm in (I cut almost just shy of 400 charms--crazy!) so the fabrics in this month's giveaway probably haven't been featured on my blog (since I didn't show off the piles of charms).

But never fear, I have a few pics to show you what you might win.

That's the whole pile.

It's really big.  I'd guess it's about a pound of fabric.  It features some smaller bits and pieces (scrappy scraps) and a lot of larger pieces.  I don't have actual measurements but the larger cuts aren't larger than a fat quarter and most are pretty evenly cut (so very few trimmings from when you cut out a pattern piece--so really even scraps, if you will).

That's the "scrappy scraps" and the strips.  Most strips are around 2.5 inches wide and vary in length.

Now, some pics of the larger pieces.

These are familiar.  They are from the 12 lb remnant box and I've used them in some projects.

Yes, there are some seasonal prints in this pile.  Cute gingerbread kids.  These haven't been used in any projects this month, they are purely from my charm cutting project.

Fun novelty prints (yes, that's Hello Kitty).  Again, these are all from my charm cutting project.

Country themed fabric and some more repro looking prints.  Hearts and flames and little cars and. . .yeah, there is just all kinds of stuff in this package.

All fabrics are quilting cottons.  Most have not been pre-washed.  I don't think there are any solids in this pile (but a bit may have snuck in, it's a fat pile).

I'm really excited to give this scrap pack away.  It features a lot of fabric I've had for a bit and have used here and there and am really ready to move along to help thin out my stash. Lots of good usable fabric you'll have fun sorting through.

GIVEAWAY: Fabric scrap pack! (edited to correct dates) CLOSED

It's GIVEAWAY time.

Yes, I'm sticking with my once a month FY14 Charity Sewing themed giveaways.

As they will always be, the prize is a scrap pack of fabric.  Some pieces will be large sized scraps and some will be smaller "scrappy scraps".  All will be fabrics featured in projects I've completed since the last giveaway.

This month's package also has a special bonus that comes to you courtesy of some bad cutting on the part of the employees at fabric.com.

Ok, check this out.  

Do you see what I see?  Notice how poorly it's cut at the bottom of the image?  Yes, I was not satisfied with that half assed cutting so I sent a message to customer service telling them as much.  I don't think it's unreasonable to expect a panel to be cut so that I get all of the images.  It's a PANEL, you're supposed to get all the images.

Customer service at fabric.com is very good.  They had no problem sending me a new one (and as with any replacement, they let me keep the original item).  I can't praise fabric.com enough for that.  I've never had any problems with them making an order correct.

BUT. . .

The second piece they sent was cut just as poorly.  *headesk*  Instead of making a big stink about it, I decided to just cut my losses.  After all, they had given me two items for the cost of one and clearly they weren't capable of properly cutting the fabric so I'll just chalk it up as a lesson learned and not buy any more panels from fabric.com.  The kicker?  Both pieces were cut poorly in the same spot.  So of the two pieces I received, neither had a full "leaping cat" image.

(and I did put a review on the item to let folks know that panel cutting isn't fabric.com's strong suit, just to give folks a heads up--I did praise customer service in the review, too, because honestly I'm not that upset just kind of "oh for crying out loud" about it).

SO. . .long story short, I have two sets of that panel fabric so one of them is included in the giveaway pack.

My photos don't do the fabrics justice.  The colors are much brighter in person.  If you want a better idea of the colors, just browse through my blog and see the different items I've made since the last giveaway post.  the pack features fabrics from the pony dolls, mermaid dolls, pencil pouches, and crazy 9 patch blocks (civil war reproduction fabrics).

To give you an idea of the sizes, the blue fabrics on the left of the pic are each pretty large.  Not quite fat quarter sized but very generous.  The mermaid fabrics (chartreuse chevrons, yellow, gray floral print, aqua polka dots, and tea dyed) are medium size scraps.  Definitely large enough for some patch work or small projects.  The rest of the fabrics (yellow floral from pony dolls, car print from and punctuation fabrics from the pencil pouches) are "scrappy scraps".  They're smaller and/or odd cuts.  Great for paper piecing or small projects like applique (or if you make teesha moore style patches).

The only fabrics that are pre-washed are the tea dyed ones (tan shades).  The car print and "back to school" prints (used to make pencil pouches) are cotton/linen mixes.

And the extra panel.  Again, the "leaping cat" panel is not whole.  It is cut into a bit along the bottom.  There are 6 images total that run the width of the fabric and are about 1/4 yard in length (each image is about 10 inches square).  The colors are super rich and bright.  It's a really fun panel which I'm very happy to share with folks (and can't wait to find a use for mine).

I'll most likely add a bit more to the package, too.  I know I have more of those civil war reproduction fabrics which I can share.

GIVEAWAY!!!!!! FY14 Sewing Challenge Giveaway #1 (CLOSED)

I'm long over due to host a giveaway.

I've been toying with the idea ever since I started the FY14 Charity Sewing Challenge.  The kick in the pants I needed to get this part of the challenge underway was an incorrect item I received in my Fabric.com order.  They sent me the wrong thing (and are correcting the issue) and said I could keep it.  BUT. . .I don't really like the wrong item so it needs to go on to a new home.

Ok, enough blather.  Let's see some pics of what's up for grabs.

This is the item I received in error.  It's two pieces of cotton toile fabric approximately 26 x 19 inches in size.  It's nice enough fabric but just not my bag.  It is two odd ball cuts but there are some good images.  I've featured two of the best ones in the pic.  The background color is white (not off white as the crappy pic may suggest).

But that's not enough of a prize for a giveaway, right?

SO, here's where the FY14 Charity Sewing Challenge aspect of this giveaway comes into play.

I've decided every month I'm going to have a giveaway featuring some of the fabrics I used in the previous month's charity projects.

So this month features some of the fabrics I used to make last month's batik dinosaurs.  In fact, this is all the leftover fabric from the batik dinosaurs.

This is a scrap lot.  The lengths range from 3 inches to 20 inches.  The widths range from 11 inches to 44 inches.  Some are in strips that are cut a bit crooked (so will go from 3 inches and get a bit longer as the strip goes along).  Some are odd cuts where you can see where I cut out a pattern piece.  There will also be a scrappy scrap bag featuring very small scraps (useful for paper piecing, covering buttons, little projects like that).

I'm pretty sure two of these pieces were never used in the dinosaurs at all (the bright orange and the dark green next to it).  But I realized I don't really like batiks that much, so why keep two random pieces when they make a better addition to a giveaway prize than just taking up space in my stash.

Guess what showed up at my door yesterday?

Some Charming Travelers.  It's a set of 56 5 inch charms that started with From Blank Pages and has been all over the US and Canada (ok, not quite all over Canada yet).  Want to see exactly where this (the blue pack) has been?  Check it out at the travel log on From Blank Pages.

When you win the charms, you can take as many as you want then replace them (the pack must have minimum 56 5 inch charms when it leaves you!).  Make sure you follow the golden rule and add back things that you think others would like and are of good quality.  You want the Travelers to be as nice for someone else as they were for you!

I'm not sure how many folks will be heart broken over missing out on some of the weirdos I snagged.  What?  You're not lining up and rioting to get that koala charm?  Or that feline tabloid charm (yes, it's like a cat tabloid with funny headlines--I grabbed that up without hesitation).

I took a total of ten charms, eight of which I consider "pairs" which I plan to use together (like the cat tabloid and paw prints--go great together!).  The two miscellaneous ones (that aren't really pairs) were the white with the blenders and the yellow with little puppies.  Yes, I could pair them but that would be odd and mildy disturbing.

Anyway!

Want to see what I added to the Charming Travelers?

(the colors are a bit washed out--you know how crappy the lighting is in my house!)

Top row:  flowery shaped polka dots on a beige-ish background, mottled purple/greens (kind of looks like a watercolor painting of a field of flowers), apple trees
Middle row:  storybook gals on purple, gray and white large chevron, pale yellow with verry feint tinge of green and swirls
Bottom row:  celery on yellow, gray with flowery design, ghosts (I love that fabric--I share it all the time)
And, last but not least:  SUSHI  (a charm from the leftover fabric I used to make Biggie Smalls, the giant squid)

I tried to add in colors/patterns that were lacking in the set and replenish the "weird" factor (I depleted it pretty well) and add a few that matched charms already in the set (like the apple trees go well with another apple fabric in the set).

Ok, I'm done yapping about the charms.  Time to get on to the giveaway rules.
